Morning Reflection
The Forty Days of Jesus: What Would He Say to Us Today?
After His resurrection, Jesus remained with His disciples for forty days. During that time, He strengthened their faith, explained the Scriptures, comforted their hearts, and prepared them for the mission that would continue after His ascension into heaven. He knew they would face trials, persecution, and moments of doubt, yet He assured them they would never be alone.
If Jesus were walking visibly among us during those forty days today, His words would be just as meaningful now as they were two thousand years ago.
Perhaps He would say:
"Do not let fear rule your lives. Trust in Me, even when you do not understand the path before you."
"Love one another. Love remains the greatest sign that you are My disciples."
"Forgive. Forgiveness cannot change the past, but it frees your heart to embrace the future God has prepared for you."
"Do not live only for the things of this world. Seek first the Kingdom of God, and everything else will find its proper place."
"Bring hope to those who have lost hope, comfort to those who are suffering, and peace to those who are burdened."
"Do not lose heart in times of difficulty. I have overcome the world, and My presence will remain with you always."
These words reflect the teachings we find throughout the Gospels. Jesus continues to speak to every heart through His Word, through the Holy Spirit, and through the daily opportunities we have to practice love, mercy, and justice.
The forty days before His ascension were not a time of farewell but a time of preparation. In the same way, every new day is an opportunity to strengthen our faith and to live as faithful witnesses of the Gospel.
Scripture for Meditation
"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Matthew 28:20
Reflection
Although Jesus' physical presence with His disciples ended at the Ascension, His spiritual presence remains with all who follow Him. The mission He entrusted to His disciples is also entrusted to us: to live the Gospel with love, humility, and hope.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for never leaving us alone. Just as You strengthened Your disciples before Your ascension, strengthen our faith today. Teach us to love more deeply, to forgive sincerely, to trust in Your promises, and to bring hope to those in need. May we live each day knowing that You are always with us, guiding our steps and filling our hearts with Your peace. Amen.
