Paths of the Word – The Death and Resurrection of Lazarus
Bible Passage: John 11:1-44
Summary
Lazarus, a friend of Jesus and the brother of Martha and Mary, became seriously ill and died before Jesus arrived in Bethany. When Jesus saw the sorrow of His dear friends, He was deeply moved and wept, revealing His great compassion for human suffering.
Standing before the tomb, Jesus declared:
"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die." (John 11:25)
Then He ordered the stone to be removed and cried out with a loud voice:
"Lazarus, come out!"
And Lazarus came out of the tomb alive, before the eyes of everyone.
Reflection
The resurrection of Lazarus teaches us that, with God, no situation is hopeless and no hope is lost forever. Many times, we carry within our hearts dreams, strength, and hopes that seem buried by the difficulties of life. Yet Jesus still approaches our "tombs" and calls us back to life.
Even when we do not understand God's timing, He is still at work. The miracle of Lazarus reminds us that the Lord has the power to transform mourning into joy, despair into hope, and death into life.
Teaching
Jesus is the source of eternal life and renewal. Whoever trusts in Him learns that faith can remove the stones of fear, sadness, and hopelessness. The Lord invites us to come out of everything that keeps us bound and to walk in a new life illuminated by His presence.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, just as You called Lazarus out of the tomb, call our hearts into a renewed life. Restore within us hope, joy, and trust in Your love. Help us believe that nothing is impossible for You and that even in the most difficult moments, Your light continues to shine. May we always walk by Your side, certain that You are the Resurrection and the Life. Amen.
