Paths of the Word
Revelation 9
Summary:
In this chapter, the visions become more intense and unsettling.
A star fallen from heaven is given the key to the abyss. When it is opened, smoke rises and darkens the sky, and from it come locusts with power to torment those who do not have the seal of God, for a limited time.
They have as king the angel of the abyss, called Abaddon.
When the sixth trumpet sounds, four angels are released near the great river Euphrates. They lead a great force that brings destruction upon part of humanity, with fire, smoke, and sulfur.
Even after all this, many do not repent and continue in their ways.
Reflection:
This chapter reveals that suffering does not always lead to change.
Even in the face of strong signs, the human heart can remain hardened.
There are moments when life warns us — through difficult situations, consequences, or losses — and yet we still resist changing our path.
Revelation 9 invites us to look within and recognize: are we paying attention to the signs, or ignoring what needs to be transformed?
Teaching:
Recognizing the signs and choosing to change is an act of wisdom and humility.
Key Verse:
“The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, still did not repent of the work of their hands.”
Prayer:
Lord,
give me the sensitivity to perceive the signs that life presents.
Do not allow my heart to become hardened,
but grant me the courage to recognize, change, and follow Your path.
Amen.
